Rich History
Unisource has a proud history dating back to 1968. In that year, Alco Standard Corporation formed a distribution enterprise that would come to be known as Unisource. By the early 1980s, Alco had become the most efficient, cost-effective, multi-product distributor in the United States. In 1986 the company’s strategy shifted, and Alco changed its focus to the distribution of paper and office products.

In 1996, Alco Standard was dissolved and Unisource became a publicly-traded company. Unisource experienced rapid growth, fed in part by the acquisition of outstanding local and regional distribution companies in the United States, Canada and Mexico. In 1999, Unisource was acquired by Georgia-Pacific Corporation, which retains 40% ownership of our Company today. Since 2002, the remaining 60% ownership of Unisource has been held by Bain Capital.
