Unisource and Function: Create High-End Book Featuring Iconic Rock ´N´ Roll Photographer
Retrospective Captures Baron Wolman’s Most Celebrated Images
NORCROSS, GA (November 12, 2007) – Unisource Worldwide, Inc., a leading independent marketer and distributor of commercial printing and business imaging papers, packaging systems, facility supplies and equipment, has partnered with Atlanta-based design and marketing agency Function: to create a high-end remembrance book paying tribute to famed Rolling Stone magazine photographer Baron Wolman. The volume -- showcasing Porcelain Ultra brand paper, exclusively distributed by Unisource -- will be used as a promotional tool to help launch the paper brand on the West Coast.
The book, produced in large format to reflect the tone of vintage rock posters, features some of Wolman’s most celebrated images – including photos of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Johnny Cash and The Who. The piece also incorporates an exterior wrap highlighting Wolman’s personal story, while the interior is dedicated to his experiences with the musicians immortalized in his photos.
"Baron Wolman is a legend and his visual style and photographic work represent an entire generation," said Andrew Dembitz, Director of Specification – Paper for Unisource, in Chicago. "We are thrilled to have collaborated with him on this project."
A range of black-and-white and quad tones was used throughout the book to highlight the strengths of both the paper and the photography. Function: utilized Porcelain Ultra’s gloss and silk finishes along with cover weights to showcase the range of the product line.
"It’s the perfect merger of photography, paper and design," said Michele DeHaven, principal and creative director for Function:. "Baron’s photography is classic, relatable and evocative, and Porcelain is the perfect paper sheet to showcase that depth and character. We are delighted to have the opportunity to participate in this project."
